Theme 11 - Sustainable Tourism

Sustainable tourism examines the effects of the millions of cruise passengers visiting MPAs each year, and how ineffective institutional and political structures complicate conservation efforts. It looks at tools and methods for minimising the environmental footprint of tourism in marine protected areas. The session highlights an analysis aimed at enhancing the benefits of community-based tourism initiatives, discussing the challenges of poverty alleviation and twinning conservation and developmental priorities.
