International Tropical Marine
Ecosystems Management Symposium (ITMEMS)Global Problems, Local Solutions
The International Tropical Marine Ecosystem Management Symposia bring together managers of coral reefs and related ecosystems from around the world to review progress in management of these systems, to set an agenda for their future conservation and sustainable use and to build the capacity of practitioners and policy makers to manage these ecosystems.
ITMEMS provides an opportunity to exchange lessons learned, good practices, and effective local solutions amongst peers and to develop communication networks within the tropical ecosystem management community. The meetings facilitate productive discussion and information sharing by people involved in management of coral reef ecosystems, and the implementation of the ICRI Framework for Action.
The final outputs of the Symposia are presented within a framework of the four ICRI cornerstones: integrated management; capacity building; monitoring and review. This site not only collates the wealth of information and outputs from previous ITMEMS, it will also serve as the central portal of information for the upcoming ITMEMS4.
